Today students should have brought home permission forms for inline skating as well as their Art and order forms from the last Flex Friday. Please return the inline forms as soon as possible as we are beginning our 3 day experience with the rollerblades starting next Wednesday (March 7), Thursday (March 8) and Friday (March 9). The Art and attached order forms have a very quick turnaround as well. Students worked with a variety of teachers around the school last Friday to create these pieces. If you wish to order anything with these creations on it please send in both the payment as well as the art piece so that we can send it off to be scanned and made into the item you wish to order.
We have been busy preparing these week for our section of the assembly on Friday. The assembly begins at 8:30 am in the gym and will likely go from 8:30-9:15 or so. Anyone who would like to attend is welcome.

We are now finished snowshoeing and boy did the kids love it! We are so thankful that Panorama Hills lent us these cool snowshoes for us to try out. Despite the frigid temperatures of the past few weeks, we had ample snow to make this experience truly authentic. Students were able to really visualize tramping across the frozen tundra of the arctic! I was very proud of the perseverance students showed when working to put the snowshoes on independently as the straps were tricky!
In Social Studies this week we are finishing up our unit on the history of First Nations and Settlers of the prairies. This Friday (March 2nd) we will be sharing some of our learning in the assembly (sorry for the super short notice!!). Anyone who would like to attend the assembly is welcome and it starts at 8:30 am. It will likely be about 30 -40 minutes long and will also include some morning kindergarten pieces as well.
Upcoming Dates
February 28/March 1- Popcorn Days- bring a toonie for a bag which will go towards Parent Council fundraising efforts
February 28- Pink Shirt day- wear a pink shirt to school to show support for ending bullying

Snowshoeing Schedule and Spirit Days
Here is the tentative schedule for snowshoeing. A lot will depend on the weather and what the conditions are like. Please make sure your child has snowpants, boots, hats/mitts, and a jacket as we will likely have some falls in the snow as we are learning. Tomorrow is supposed to be a nicer day but it is supposed to get cold later in the week.

Wow! It's been an interesting week (or 2) of weather! So much snow and unfortunately the cold temperatures to match. Hopefully this upcoming week will have less indoor recess time and more fresh air and outdoor breaks! We are also hoping to make use of a set of snowshoes that we borrowed from a nearby school to experience a different way of getting around in the deep snow! There was a form that went home on Friday (those who were away will get it tomorrow) explaining it. We need the form signed and return to the school to ensure you are ok with your child participating in this activity.
Tomorrow is an Olympic Spirit Day- students can wear Red or White to show their Canadian Pride or the colours of another country that they are connected to. I loved seeing all the patriotic pride on Friday for the opening ceremonies of the 2018 Winter Games.
This week is also a short week with Teachers Convention on Thursday and Friday so there will be no school. On Wednesday, we will spend some time in the afternoon sharing valentines if the students wish to bring some and doing an art project. It is not mandatory that students bring valentines, however, if they do choose to bring them please ensure they bring for all students in the class so no one is left out. There was a form sent home that listed everyone's name- if you need another copy sent home please let me know and I will make sure your child gets one tomorrow.
For the past little bit, students have been busy exploring what life was like for First Nations people and Settlers long long ago. The class has done a great job of researching their specific topic and using a variety of resources such as books, pictures, and teacher chosen websites. Each student is responsible for one section of information on either Settler or First Nations people. For example, your child may be looking at what education was like for Pioneer's or what First nations people used for shelter. This week we are taking our information that we found and each student will be responsible for creating a "page" to contribute to a book we will be creating for our Learning Commons to help others in the school learn more about these concepts.
