Field Trip, Conferences, Updates

This Thursday evening (January 25) and Friday morning (January 26)  are Student Led Parent Conferences. I think there are still a few more spots open for Thursday evening and there are lots of spots still available for Friday morning. To sign up just go to your MyCBE account. These student led conferences have a maximum of 4 families in the room at a time so if you need to speak privately with me about anything pertaining to your child, we can schedule a separate meeting. The Book Fair is also at our school this week and will be open during conferences. When families purchase books from this Book Fair we get a percentage of the profits that goes back into buying new books for the Library and classrooms! Students will get a chance to check out the Book Fair during the day on Wednesday to see what they may find interesting. They can bring money to school on Thursday if you would like them to purchase something without you or you can stop by as a family at conferences.

Because of the Student Led Conferences, there will be no school on Friday, January 26. There is also a Professional Development Day on Monday, January 29th so students will have an extra long weekend!

We had an awesome Field trip last week to Fort Calgary! The students loved the hands on opportunities to explore how Calgary and Alberta were first settled. We had a chance to dress up as North West Mounted Police, First Nations people, Settler Men and Women, and Missionaries and learned about some of the tools and toys that the various people used. Students even had the opportunity to work as a team to build a log cabin! Check out these pictures from our trip.

Please support your child in being prepared for the weather changes by dressing in layers, wearing a hat, gloves, boots and a warm jacket. Students will have the opportunity to walk across the bridge to the Hunt house. Please click HERE to see the weather for Fort Calgary.

Students will need to:

January 15

Whew! Just like that we are into our second week of school this year and it's going to be an exciting one! We have our Field Trip to Fort Calgary on Thursday- Thank you so much to all the parents who have volunteered to come with us! (We do have another field trip at the end of April to the National Music Centre so there is still time to get police clearance done if you would like to come on that one.)

Because we will be gone from the school on Thursday for most of the day the only time for students to buy popcorn for a toonie this month is Wednesday. Fun Lunch and Flex Friday will be on Friday.  Students will go in their Flex group of students from Grade 1-4 and will have the opportunity to work with a different teacher in the school to learn diverse and interesting skills.

We have just started working on The Zones of Regulation to help us identify our emotions and find strategies or tools to get ourselves back on track when our emotions take over. Students have some great background knowledge from the Disney movie "Inside Out" so we have tried to correlate the concepts to understand better. We will continue to learn skills and techniques to help regulate ourselves. Helping your child to identify what zone they are in can be the first step for them to be able to think of how they may get themselves back into the "green" or feeling good again. Here is a photo to help classify the zones.
