Welcome Back+ Upcoming Field Trip

I hope you all had a wonderful spring break- despite it not feeling like spring yet!  It's been a great few days of learning so far. We have begun a few new units! In math we have started learning about subtraction- we've started with smaller numbers but students are already realizing how they can use their knowledge of addition strategies to subtract! For example, someone in class mentioned that they used the mental math strategy of "friends of 10" to know that 10-7=3 because 3+7=10.

In Social Studies we have started exploring the Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut. Today, students looked through a variety of books and pictures to find out how the Arctic landscape and climate compares to the prairies of Canada. We will begin writing creative stories using the Arctic as our setting and an animal from the north as our characters.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On Tuesday April 24th, and Wednesday, April 25, 2018, our classes will be visiting the National Music Centre for an all day field trip. In order to go, we require 4 parent volunteers! If you have CBE clearance and would like to join us, please email me at ljstewart@cbe.ab.ca. National Music Centre requires us to maintain a 1 adult to 5 students ratio.

Due to National Music Centre program only allowing a capacity of 30 students per program, Mrs. Stewart’s class has been split across the two fieldtrip dates. This allows us to meet the NMC requirements. I will be sending an additional email later informing you which day your child will be attending.

Thank you for your continued support!
