Friendship Show + Inuit Learning

What a great week of learning we've had so far! Today we had an incredible performance by the magician Steve Harmer who shared with us some fantastic tips about making and keeping friends! The students loved his magic- he even turned his puppet friend into a real rabbit as well as a picture of a bird into a dove! Ask your child what they remember about the acronym FRIENDS means. The timing of his performance couldn't have been better. We will be working a lot in the upcoming weeks on a variety of friendship skills and problem solving situations.

In the past 2 weeks we have been learning about the landscape and animals of the Northern Arctic region. We have talked about the vocabulary of Permafrost, Ice Floes, Icebergs, and Tundra and discussed how the climate and land are very different from the prairies but also made some connections to the similarities as well. We are writing creative stories about an arctic animal and this week we have used books and websites to learn more about what physical features and adaptations those animals have to help them survive and live in the Arctic. Students have collaborated and shared the resources and information to better understand how these animals live in often very harsh conditions.

I look forward to seeing you at Student Led Conferences Thursday and Friday this week for you to look through some of your child's learning in person. Just a reminder there are no classes on Friday due to conferences.

Next Week:
April 24 + 25- Field Trip to National Music Centre (class is split in half for each day)
April 25+26- Popcorn Days (students going on the Wed. field trip won't be able to get popcorn that                             day as we won't be in the building during sale)
April 27- Fun Lunch (order by this week) and Flex Friday
